DESIGN / ENGINEERING COORDINATION
Design / Engineering Coordination for Construction Projects
Not only can DCW Squared, LLC act as or support you with program/project management, but we can also be your design coordinator and help you determine the scope of remodeling, renovation or new build projects. We can either manage your chosen Design and engineering firm or bring on one of our licensed and certified partners. We will include preparing program documents and overseeing the designs and modifying and preparing detailed plans. We can also take on responsible for estimating the costs and citing project specifications.
As the design coordinator it will be our responsibility to interpret your vision of the finished building and to determine how to fulfill your project’s requirements. We must have a complete grasp of the entire scope of the project at hand and develop preliminary design concepts on each of the proposed stages. After the preliminary designs, we will determine cost estimates to appropriately recommend what practical alternatives would be the more cost effective.
As a general matter, the person who started the designs should be the one who finishes it, in order to encourage continuity. Therefore, as the design coordinator we will provide the continuity needed when working with several design and engineering firms, to produce the final designs and project drawings. This includes formulating all specifications of the projects in which the construction is to be performed.
As stated in our Project/Program Administration section of this website, DCW Squared, LLC is well versed in construction management. Therefore, as the design coordinator we may also be chosen to be responsible for assisting in the formation of an execution team for the project. We can help select a prime and/or general contractor for technically complex or large-scale projects. We would prepare the needed scope of work details, design drawings and other documents needed to issue request for proposals (RFP) to solicit for construction firms. Parallel to this work our estimators will produce marked analysis-based estimates to evaluate RFP responses against. Once all pricing and technical portions of the received proposals are evaluated a recommendation regarding contract award will be presented to you. Once an award is made, it would also become our responsibility to convey all project requirements and the necessary design criteria to all parties involved and other involved stakeholders.
Like the roles of a project manager, the design coordinator often oversees and reviews the consultants’ completed designs and drawings, including specifications, in order to ensure codes and technical requirements are all met. As the coordinator we would also work with the appropriate individuals to prepare documents for external contractors who will build and construct. We will relay the necessary information such as your needs, trades, and project dates, to all bidders on a project. We act as your representative during the process.
Another responsibility DCW Squared, LLC can take on is to monitor and ensure that all work being done complies with laid-out plans and specifications, and that the progress is on schedule. We will bring the needed specialists who have real world construction site experience for mechanical and electrical designs as well as for infield verifications. This includes any needed sub-consultants for special system such as communications and fire detection/suppression systems. Our coordinators have the experience to review and develop large scale projects.
Our design coordinators are experienced in architecture and engineering, design principles and drafting, plus equipment and methods. Design is very technical; it is the foundation of architecture and engineering. DCW Squared, LLC’s design coordination team has the skills needed to oversee the generation and interpretation of project drawings, charts, graphs, maps, and even legal descriptions.
As a form of team leader and project manager, a successful design coordinator must have the ability to lead, to effectively communicate, and to delegate tasks effectively. They must be meticulous and have an eye for detail – immediately spotting errors and correcting them accordingly. This will be our promise to you when you engage DCW Squared, LLC as your Design Coordinator.
